Last month I photographed the Kamppi Fall Season Opening fashion show in Kamppi shopping center. The catwalk was bright red, so these pictures are quite colorful 🙂 But white balance adjustment was quite challenging, as there was light from many different sources: daylight, normal shopping center lights, spotlights for the catwalk, light reflecting from the red catwalk, and my fill flash (warmed with orange gel)…

Kiira Korpi
Here are my favorites (16 photos) from Finlandia Trophy 2010 Ladies – Free Skating competition from today. Akiko Suzuki won the Finlandia Trophy’s ladies competition, Kiira Korpi was second and Elena Leonova was third.
From the camera setting points of view, skating is quite simple to photograph: use fast lens and full aperture (in these photos F2.8 or F2) and fast shutter speed to stop the movement (1/500 – 1/800 seconds). But the act of skating photography is not simple: Ice skaters move fast, they are typically too close or too far away (for your lens), eyes are closed, hand is in front of face,… And even the AF has misses the focus occasionally. So the success rate is quite low, and you need to prepared to shoot a lot.

Sunrise in Námafjall Geothermal Area near Mývatn
I will have one day landscape photography exhibition in Finlandia Hall on 17.10.2010 during the The Nature Photograph of the Year event (further information in Finnish). The event will be open 10:30-20, and the entrance fee for the event is 5 euros. In addition to my exhibition, you can see the best nature photographs of the year, and seven other nature photography exhibitions. You can also see several photography presentations (most of them are in Finnish, but some of them are in English, like the presentation by Jim Brandenburg), but you need to pay more (9-37 euros).
I will have 8-10 landscape prints in my Iceland exhibition. There will be four aerial photographs, they are mostly amazing river details. The rest of the landscape photos are taken during my 10 day tour into Icelandic wilderness. I participated to the landscape photography tour arranged by Daniel Bergmann. The target of this trip was to catch the various locations in the best possible light, so we were sleeping in tents and huts that allowed staying overnight near the photogenic locations. This also allowed us to be flexible with the locations and route according to variable Icelandic weather conditions. Camping is also the only alternative if you want to stay overnight in the interior of Iceland (Highland).
All of my aerial photos from Iceland are already visible in these galleries: Gallery I and Gallery II. I’m still processing the photos from the ten day tour, and they will be added to my site in few weeks.
Sunset from Lauttasaaren silta #1
The sunset today in Helsinki was amazing, the sky was really on fire! I just hope that I would have had my DSLR with me and that I would have been in southern tip of Lauttasaari or at the top Hotel Torni… So these photos are taken with compact camera (Panasonic LX3) on my way to home. Two additional photos below.

River Skafta / Link to Gallery I
My aerial tour started from Reykjavik, the northernmost point of this aerial tour was lake Hvítárvatn (Google maps link), easternmost point was Lake Langisjór (Google map link), and southernmost point was Vestmannaeyjar (Google map link).
Landeyjasandur / Link to Gallery II
I used two cameras and two lenses (24-70 mm and 70-200 mm). When the window was open it was rather windy, especially when I pushed partially the camera and my hands outside to capture some composition… I used aperture priority mode, the aperture was typically F4.5-F5.6 and the shutter speed was typically 1/800-1/1600 sec.
I was very lucky with the weather, there were nice clouds, and more importantly, nice shadows in many areas 🙂 Especially in Landmannalaugar area the clouds were almost perfect. I had seen spectacular pictures of river details, but still the reality surprised me. The river patterns were truly amazing.
Opera Ballet School
Yesterday was Night of the Arts in Helsinki. I photographed performances of opera singers, ballet dancers and ballet students on the outdoor stage. See below for 20 additional images.

View from Hotel Torni to the northwest
Here are few sunset photos from the roof terrace of Hotel Torni in Helsinki. The roof terrace is in the 14th floor and offers excellent views to the Helsinki city center. I took these photos during two evenings this week. Can landscape photography be any more pleasant? Sitting in terrace, enjoying excellent view, drinks and refreshing breeze… 🙂
