Lasipalatsi / Link to Above the Rooftops of Helsinki Gallery
These Helsinki cityscapes have been taken from four different places: the clock tower of Helsinki Central railway station, the tower of Helsinki Olympic Stadium, Hotel Torni, and roof terrace of Sokos Hotel by Helsinki Central railway station.

Fire Circus Walkea / Link to Gallery
Fire Circus Walkea (Tulisirkus Walkea) is part of the Season of Light 2011 happening. Director of this fire art performance was Antti Suniala. Performers of this excellent show were Joshua Dyffort, Minttu Pietilä, Ulpu Puhakka, Valerie Sealey and Antti Suniala.
Fire art is rather difficult to photograph: I want to show the movement with long shutter speed, but I still want that the performers are recognizable (i.e. not totally blurry). This means that the success percentage is not very high, but when everything matches, I like the results a lot 🙂
Vattuniemi, Lauttasaari, Helsinki
Here are six sunset photos that I took today. Quite nice sunset 🙂 And once again, the ice formations are totally different what I have photographed so far this winter. All these photos are from Lauttasaari, Helsinki.

Waiting for sunrise, Lauttasaari, Helsinki
Here are six landscape photos that I took today. At sunrise time there was about -13°C, and fog was rising from the sea 🙂 Because of this cold, the sea is also freezing fast and creating nice ice formations (although walking on those ice covered stones is not so nice….). All these photos are from Lauttasaari, Helsinki.

Landscape calendar pictures / Maisemakalenterin kuvat
Jo useita vuosia olen tehnyt kuvistani maisemakalenterin, jota olen antanut ystävilleni joululahjaksi. Tämä vuonna päätin tulostuttaa hieman isomman erän, ja nyt minulla on myös kalentereita myynnissä. Kaikki kalenterin maisemakuvat on nähtävissä yllä. Kuusi kuvaa on Islannista, kolme Lauttasaaresta, kaksi Posiolta, ja yksi Kuusamosta.
Kalenterin koko on A3 (42 x 29,7 cm), ja siinä on suomalaiset nimipäivät ja juhlapyhät. Tilaa kalenteri lähettämällä minulle sähköpostia, kalenterin hinta on 15 euroa + postikulut. Kalenterin voit etukäteen tililleni, tai laskulla. Kalenterit toimitetaan 13.-16.12.
Fire Art Performance, Kallio Kipinöi Festival
Yesterday I photographed the fire art show that was part of Kallio Kipinöi festival. Fire art is always rather difficult to photograph (I have photographed it twice earlier: 2005 and 2007), you must use the tripod, but you must still follow the performers. And take a lot of photos, so some of them will succeed…

Link to Kamppi Fall Season Opening 2010 Gallery
Last month I photographed the Kamppi Fall Season Opening fashion show in Kamppi shopping center. The catwalk was bright red, so these pictures are quite colorful 🙂 But white balance adjustment was quite challenging, as there was light from many different sources: daylight, normal shopping center lights, spotlights for the catwalk, light reflecting from the red catwalk, and my fill flash (warmed with orange gel)…
Link to Muoti 2010 Fashion Show Gallery
I visited Muoti 2010 fashion fair on 15.10. and photographed the general fashion show, i.e. Muoti 2010 Fashion show, and the wedding fashion show. Here are 66 photos from the Muoti 2010 fashion show. I will add later gallery from the wedding fashion show to my web site.
Kiira Korpi
Here are my favorites (16 photos) from Finlandia Trophy 2010 Ladies – Free Skating competition from today. Akiko Suzuki won the Finlandia Trophy’s ladies competition, Kiira Korpi was second and Elena Leonova was third.
From the camera setting points of view, skating is quite simple to photograph: use fast lens and full aperture (in these photos F2.8 or F2) and fast shutter speed to stop the movement (1/500 – 1/800 seconds). But the act of skating photography is not simple: Ice skaters move fast, they are typically too close or too far away (for your lens), eyes are closed, hand is in front of face,… And even the AF has misses the focus occasionally. So the success rate is quite low, and you need to prepared to shoot a lot.
